Design Korea 2007 International Conference held at COEX Grand
Ballroom on November 29th to 30th was a great success.

In this year’s Design Korea International Conference, ‘public design’
and ‘design management’ that are the issues of this age were
discussed by world-class designers and scholars.

In the international conference on public design on November
29th, David KESTER, Chief Executive of the Design Council delivered
the keynote speech. World-class designers from home and abroad
including Peter ZEC, KWON Young-gull, Claudio GERMAK,
Odile ROYER, KIM Uk and Yokokawa SHOJI served as speakers
and contributed to spreading global design trends.
In the international conference on design management on
November 30th, Thomas LOCKWOOD, President of DMI,
Alison RIEPLE, professor of Westminster University,
CHUNG Kyung-won, Professor of KAIST delivered keynote speeches,
and the speaker selected by DMI Academy Journal,
Joel PIASKOWSKI, Chief Designer of Hyundai Motor’s
American Design Center, KIM YoungJun, President of
Samsung Electronics, HWANG Sung Gul, Representative of
Motorola Korea Seoul Studio, CXD, KIM Seung Min,
General Manager of Samsung Engineering & Construction,
CHOI Eim-sik, vice president of GS Engineering & Construction,
CHOI Mi-Kyung, Design Director of KTF and Sooyong JOH,
Chief Officer of NHN discussed the ways to lead the global design trend

-"Legacy for the Future" Design Awards –

The "Legacy for the Future" Design Awards was created
in order to honor designers, corporations, associations and
nations for their contributions to human comfort, protection
of the environment in the international community, and
the establishment of cultural identity. The judges for the
awards are mainly heads of domestic and foreign design
associations and world-class design experts. Four select
exhibits among 650 exhibits displayed in the World Best
Design Exchange Zone are the candidates for the award.

In this year, the top four exhibits were selected by nine
judges: Ralph Wiegmann (Managing Director of iF, Germany),
Andrea Dichiara (professor in product design at IDAS),
Chang Dong-ryon (President of ICOGRADA), Anne Marie Boutin
(President of APCI), Anna Bates (reporter at ICON Magazine),
Choi Si-young (President of Korean Society of Interior Designers),
Uli Marchesteiner (CEO of ADI-FAD, Spain),
Jia Jiang(Editor of ART AND DESIGN PUBLISHING UNITED) and
LEE Soon-in (Professor of Hongik University).
“Human Comfort Design Award” was bestowed on 1C30
Trias prosthetic feet, the winner of Red Dot Design Award
(Germany), “Eco-Friendly Design Award” was bestowed on
Miss Folding (Folding coffee table Outdoor/Indoor),
the winner of Observeur du Design (France), and
“Cultural Identity Design Award” was bestowed on China set
Bohemia White, the winner of This Year’s Design Awards (Czech).

In addition, visitors can participate in selecting the winner of the “Legacy for the Future Design Award” 2007 by vote in the exhibition hall during the exhibition period.

Design Korea 2007 Opening Ceremony

Design Korea 2007 has kicked off at COEX Atlantic Hall on
November 29th with the overture of “World Best Design
Exchange” which has brought a lot of state-of-the-art designs
from home and abroad.

Choi Hyun-jung, announcer and public ambassador for design
at Korea Institute of Design Promotion was the host of the
opening ceremony which started with a performance of opening
the window of communication by the celebrated Dood Rock
percussion troupe. Notable guests including Kim Young-ju,
minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy, Lee Il-kyoo,
President & CEO of Korea Institute of Design Promotion,
Peter Zec, Red dot President and David Kester, President
of Design Council attended the opening ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony, the road of communication to
World Best Design Exchange was opened by cutting the tape.
This exhibition has its significance in that it will raise the
design standard of Korea by comparing Korean designs with
other world-class designs and support business activities
among domestic and foreign companies and design firms.
This exhibition will also contribute to Korea’s takeoff to
the design leader in the world by giving its people some
insight in design.

Design Korea 2007 International Conference

The 9th Convention on Design Promotion to foster the design
industry, which is the alchemy of the 21st century, was held
at COEX Grand Ballroom on November 29th.

at Korea Institute of Design Promotion was the host of the
opening ceremony which consisted of the presentations on
development strategies of design industry for 2008,
the presentations on successful cases of Korean Design Awards
and Good Design (GD) Selection and Korean Design Awards
and Good Design (GD) Selection ceremonies.

In the management field, Woong Jin Coway, Hyundai

Engineering & Construction, GB Style, Samkwang System
and Seongnam City were awarded, and in the individual field,
Kwon Young-gull (Seoul National University), Han Seok-woo
(Seoul National University of Technology), Kim Seung-min
(Samsung Engineering & Construction) and Ahn Hoe-young
(Korean Society of Interior Designers) were awarded.
The winners of Good Design include GS Engineering &
Construction, Samsung Electronics, Samsung Engineering &
Construction and LG Electronics.

Flower Robotics, Inc. was established in Tokyo by Tatsuya
Matsui, a robot designer, in 201. We cover a wide variety of
businesses, such as robot developemtn, architectural design,
product design, aircraft design, and formulation of corporate
identity program.


At the booth of Flower RObotics, Inc., we introduce an
exhibition that we hold at the "ART TOWER MITO"
(located in lbaraki, Japan).
You will see the humanoid robots "Posy", "Palette", and
other creations developed by Tatsuya Matsui, a robot
designer, at this exhibition in Mito.
He calmly recognizes the limitation of human beings and
techonology, and builds a relationship that complements
both of them. That is to say, he creates his works on the
theme of "weakness" of human beings and techonolgy.
He compares this relationship to the "flowers" in the
environemt, and develops the various creative activities.
At this exhibition, we present the Japanese robot industry
in the future materialized not only from the technological
aspect but also form the aspect of design, environment,
and marketing by Tatsuya Matsui, and "Flower Robotics, Inc."
that is a body of his activity as well as a symbol of his philosophy.
