As a leading European institution in the field of design promotion,
the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen has acted as an intermediary
between industry, business and designers since 1954, organising high
prestige competitions as the Red Dot Design Award which afford design
oriented companies the opprotunity of comparing performance and
quality on an international level.
The Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and its Red Dot Design museum
are housed in one of the most impressive industrial buildings of the 20th
century, the Boiler House of the former Zollverein XII colliery in Essen,
since 2002 Zollverein is part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.

The Red Dot Design Award is the largest German design competition
and world-wide one of the most desired quality labels for good design.
It ranks among the largest and most renowned design competitions
in the world.

The Red Dot Award Attracted more than 7,000 submissions from
more than 50 countries in 2007 alone.
The award-winning products are put before an international public
in the Red Dot Design Museum.
